Hafiza Merkezi Berlin published three new reports: A Feminist Discussion on the “Human Rights Defender” Paradigm in Turkey, Defending Rights Between Institutions, Identities and Subjectivities: A Gender Perspective on Civil Society, and Women and LGBTQI+ Actors as Lifelines of Each Other: Relations, Alliances, Disjunctures in the Field of Human Rights.

These three short reports, published in scope of Hafıza Merkezi Berlin’s project “Defending Others, Liberating Themselves: Women Human Rights Defenders’ Experiences in Turkey” supported by the German Foreign Office are the product of a long-term research aiming to analyze the gendered structure of civil society and the struggle for human rights in Turkey, and the gendered experiences of the actors in the field from a feminist perspective. Our researchers, Duru Yavan, Gülistan Zeren and Hande Gülen conducted semi-structured online interviews with 30 people from nongovernmental organizations, the feminist movement, the Kurdish women’s movement, LGBTQI+ institutions, and activist networks. The main aim was uncovering the gendered nature of civil society and human rights in Turkey and the experiences of female and non-binary actors in the field.

The reports are written in Turkish and please check our Reports page to see the reports both in Turkish and English.
